Water Restriction Exemptions – Commercial Car wash Applications
Businesses can apply for exemption to water restrictions if they must wash vehicles as part of their operations, or to keep staff in employment.
These businesses must apply to become a Commercial Car wash. To do this they must fill out a Water Conservation Plan Report and submit this to the local water authority.
A Water Conservation Plan Report application form can be found at these Melbourne water suppliers’ websites:
City West Water 131 691 www.citywestwater.com.au
South East Water 131 694 www.southeastwater.com.au
Yarra Valley Water 131 721 www.yarravalleywater.com.au
Melbourne Water 131 722 www.melbournewater.com.au
The water industry advises that the application must adequately demonstrate that the following key requirements have been met:
- A self-assessment has been carried out.
- An independent audit of processes and operations has been carried out.
- Appropriate signage is to be/has been produced and displayed where the work is carried out.
- A Water Conservation Plan that ensures this level of water use is maintained or improved over time, is available and accessible to the water supplier at all times.
